Introduction of Fine Line Wrinkles Facial lines and wrinkles form from because of a variety of things, including the natural aging process, damage from the sun, general muscle movement, gravity, injury, surgery, acne, smoking and other skin conditions that have a tendency to scar. When irregular thickening of the dermis occurs, as well as the amount of water held in the epidermis decreases, fine lines develop. Dynamic or static lines are when deeper lines or furrows develop. These appear with movement, such as smiling or frowning.Dynamic lines will eventually become static. Static lines remain unchanged with muscle movement. Examples of fine lines include crow’s feet around the eyes, worry lines on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows.

What are the Classifications of Fine Lines?According to Glogau’s Classifications of Fine Lines and Wrinkles, there are four classifications:
- Mild – Few wrinkles or fine lines, requiring little makeup
- Moderate – The early signs of wrinkles; a sallow complex, requiring some makeup
- Advanced – This form of wrinkling is more persistent, requiring specialized makeup
- Severe – Fine lines show up all over the face. Wrinkles and furrows are also present and makeup is not sufficient to cover
- Crow’s Feet: Laughter and smiling causes crow’s feet to develop around the outer corners of the eyes. This is because of repeated muscle movement. Squinting can also cause crow’s feet. Most people notice the first signs of aging around their eyes. Sunscreen should always be worn on the face to avoid sun damage. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest skin on your body, which means this area is more susceptible to wrinkles.
- Worry Lines: Although experts are still unsure if worry lines are caused by frowning, it is undeniable that stress and wrinkles are related. Each human has chromosomes, which are the structures in our cells that contain our genes. Regions called telomeres are at the end of our chromosomes. Each time a cell splits during mitosis, a bit of telomere is lost. Cells cannot divide once telomere is limited. The older we get, the more our cells have divided and the shorter our telomeres are. People who experience high levels of stress have shorter telomeres in a faster period of time. It is likely that people develop wrinkles because of our lifestyle and the stress we experience.
- Frown Lines: Deep frown lines can be caused by sun damage and the natural aging process. As we age and our skin becomes damaged, the skin loses its elasticity. Genetic makeup and hormones can also lead to frown lines.
